Putting Your Family History On The Internet
This video outlines how to put your family tree on the Internet, with a step-by-step guide. There are numerous other websites that offer space on their website for you to input your ancestors, but I liked this particular video as it shows how it is done in relatively easy to use steps. This particular website, TribalPages.com, actually has an option that allows you to send out a family newsletter of sorts (birthday reminders, and recent pictures of only close relatives of the person, as examples). Detailed ancestor, descendant and family charts can be generated and printable reports can be made.
Another option is that you can import a GEDcom file into the family tree. If you are unfamiliar with what a GEDcom is, that will be covered in more detail later, but basically it is a computer file of your family tree that can be moved from a program to another website or home computer.
The website states that they do not sell, share or disclose your information to any 3rd party, so there should be no problem with the information getting into the wrong hands. The service is offered freely, but if you want, you can purchase more space or advanced features when you are comfortable with the site.
As I mentioned, this is only one of several websites that allow you to share the information you have collected with the rest of the world. Of course, if you have questions or comments, I'll see how I can help.
